Appropriate Technologies Database

Appropriate technology (AT) is a technology that should be ecological, energetic, economic and social/political or culturally feasible. It should be environmentally friendly by not overloading of naturally occurring substances and protecting existing natural habitat, whilst conserving the environment. AT promotes the use of energy sources and recycled material. It is low costing with the promotion of small- scale production, long life and it should be labour intensive. At most AT promotes social adaptability and self reliance and it should be usable at community level.

ECATU appropriate technology Database hosts various technologies developed worldwide for potential adoption in the Eastern Cape rural communities. Its content is focused on the Renewable energy, water and sanitation solutions, Organic farming practices, basic infrastructure (including soil cement bricks, netwire and barbed wire technologies).
